Hey BHW,

A few weeks ago I shared my EMD + Bing method . Some of you asked for real numbers. So here's a full breakdown of my best performing site, month by month.

Quick context: this is a French B2B finance niche site on a fresh EMD (not expired, just a new domain with the main keyword in it). 477 pages published. Monetized with affiliate only. The site is 4 months old.

The Numbers

MonthClicks (Bing)Clicks (Google)Total ClicksRevenueSpend
April000€0€12
May103141€0€192
June259536795€40€152
July9948971,891€380€146
August (projected)~1,300~960~2,260€515~€129

Totals after 4 months:

  • Revenue: €935
  • Spend: €575
  • Net profit: €360
  • ROI: 63%

The spend rule is simple: 25% of last month's revenue goes to link building. So August's budget is 25% of July's €515. Some months I spend more early on to get things moving, but that's the baseline.

What Changed From My Original Method

In my first thread I said my traffic split was 95% Bing / 5% Google. On this site it's different: roughly 55% Bing / 45% Google. Bing still leads, but Google is picking up more than I expected.

I think the reason is topical authority. With 477 pages covering every angle of this B2B niche, Google is starting to take the site seriously even though it's only 4 months old. On my smaller sites (100-150 pages), Google barely shows up. On this one, it does.

Two other differences from my original method: this is a fresh EMD, not expired. Proof that you don't need an expired domain with history. A new domain with the right keyword works too, it just needs more content to compensate. And this site runs on affiliate, not AdSense. Way more profitable on the right niche.

Takeaway: bigger sites get Google traffic too. The EMD method still works as the foundation, but if you go big enough on content, Google comes as a bonus.

Affiliate vs AdSense

My original thread was about AdSense sites making $30-60/month. This site is affiliate only and the numbers are very different.

August stats:

  • 293 clicks on affiliate CTAs
  • 58 conversions
  • ~20% conversion rate
  • €515 revenue

One good affiliate program on the right niche crushes AdSense. The downside is unpredictability. Some days I get 5 conversions, some days zero. But the ceiling is much higher.

I place 3-4 CTAs per article: one right after the intro, 1-2 mid-article, and one before the FAQ. Nothing aggressive, just contextual recommendations. The 20% conversion rate tells me the traffic is high intent, which makes sense for B2B finance queries.

Content Strategy: 477 Pages

This is by far my biggest site. Here's how it breaks down:

  • Structured as a semantic cocoon with multiple clusters
  • Each cluster covers a sub-topic of the niche exhaustively
  • Articles are 3,000-5,000 words, always longer than what's currently ranking
  • Internal linking follows the parent/child/sibling structure I described in my first thread
  • Cross-cluster links only where genuinely relevant

477 pages sounds insane. But each article takes me 5-10 minutes. The AI does the writing, I do the outline and the SERP analysis beforehand. Once your prompts are dialed in and your cocoon structure is mapped out, production is fast. I publish 1 article per day and I'm still going.

Spend Breakdown

My rule: 25% of revenue goes to link building. I wait until the end of each month, check what I made, and that's my link budget for the next month.

In practice:

  • April-May (€204): Initial investment before any revenue. Domain, hosting, first batch of links. You're spending blind here, that's normal
  • June-July (€298): Revenue starts coming in. The 25% rule kicks in
  • August (~€129): 25% of July's revenue. Budget grows as the site grows

All links bought through netlinking platforms and link building services. Anchors are URL or brand name only.

What Worked

The fresh EMD. No expired domain needed. A brand new domain with the main keyword in the name, combined with massive topical coverage, was enough. Bing picked it up in month 2, Google followed in month 3.

Going big on content. 477 pages is the reason this site performs differently from my smaller ones. More pages = more keywords = more entry points = more affiliate CTA exposure.

Affiliate over AdSense. On a B2B finance niche with high purchase intent, affiliate is 10x better than display ads. €515/month vs the $30-60 I make on my AdSense sites.

The 25% reinvestment rule. Simple and sustainable. You never overspend, and your link budget scales naturally with results.

What Didn't Work

Forum. I set up a forum subdomain to build community and user-generated content. It actually ranks well on Google and gets clicks (it's one of my most clicked sections in Search Console). But nobody starts threads. People land, browse existing content, and leave. I'll keep it live because it brings traffic, but the community play isn't working yet.

What's Next

The site is still very much active. I'm keeping the pace at 1 article per day to fill content gaps and push into sub-topics I haven't covered yet.

Beyond content, three things on my roadmap:

YouTube. The niche has video potential and I want to repurpose my top articles into videos. My blocker right now is honestly the editing. Writing 477 articles is somehow easier than sitting down and editing a 10-minute video. If anyone has a low-effort video workflow, I'm all ears.

Facebook. I've scheduled 2 weeks of articles to be shared on a Facebook page for the niche. No idea if it'll drive meaningful traffic, but it's zero effort to test so why not.

Replication. I want to apply the same playbook to 2-3 new niches. Fresh EMD, 200-300 page semantic cocoon, affiliate monetization, 25% reinvestment rule. Goal for end of 2026: multiple sites at this level.

Happy to answer questions.

What kind of link building are you working on? Guest post and niche edits?

This is cool, thanks for sharing. My questions:

1. Are you French? (could this explain the site does so well because it's less competitive than the English version?).
2. Are you still doing English AdSense sites? (If yes, how are these doing?)
3. Your guest post links seem cheap to buy, mind sharing where you buy these?
4. How do you do your initial website topic research planning?

Thank you!

Nice case study. Will keep an eye on your thread.

Hey, it’s been interesting to follow your progress. Looking forward to your next updates!

thanks for the interesting data i will be following this topic! i also read your linked topic where you mentioned you were posting a post a day on your other sites (so that 100 pages would take like 3-4 months). In this case if understand it right you have a 470 pages site that is 4 months old so I am curious to know if you have changed your strategy and if you think posting all content as once is worth it.

Also is nice to see the number of clicks growing so fast so congrats on that. How many backlinks did you have at the early days? You mention in your other post that 30RD were the minimal for consistent ranking do you still think this is the case?

Mostly guest posts bought on netlinking platforms. I also use some link building services for volume. Anchors are always the URL or the brand name, nothing else.

  • Yes I'm French, and yes the French market is less competitive than English. That's part of the strategy. B2B finance in English would be a nightmare, in French it's more doable.
  • No English sites yet, all my sites are French for now.
  • I use French netlinking platforms mostly. For the English-speaking crowd here, you'd find equivalent services on BHW or Fiverr. Budget was around €100-150/month per site so nothing crazy but on the main site I'll spend 25% of the revenue on links
  • I start with the main keyword (which is the EMD), then I map out every sub-topic I can find. I check what's ranking on page 1 for each sub-topic, identify gaps, and build my cocoon structure from there. The goal is to cover the niche more exhaustively than any competitor. I use a mix of keyword tools and manual SERP browsing.
OP, any update?
Still going strong.

Good catch. I should have been clearer in the post. On this site I don't publish pages one by one linearly. I build the cocoon structure first, then publish all level 1 pages (pillar pages) at once before submitting the sitemap to Google and Bing. After that I fill in the child pages at 1/day pace. I also sometimes accelerate publication on specific clusters when I spot a competitor I can catch quickly.

So yes, 477 pages in 4 months is faster than 1/day. The batch publishing of pillar pages upfront makes a big difference for initial indexation.

On backlinks: yes I still think 30 RD is the threshold where things stabilize. Below that, rankings bounce around a lot. This site crossed 30 RD around month 3 and that's exactly when consistent traffic kicked in.

What platform is that in the screensh9t

-Can you explain how you are doing these 3-4 CTAs, what are you writing?
-Is every post 3000-4000 words long or only your pillar content?
-Is knowing the language a must to do the keyword/topic research?

thanks for the answers @aaazz97
One more thing, I have this warning on my sites on bing webmasters tools (about site lacking inbound links from high-quality domains). I am curious if you also see this warning for your websites after your initial link building?
