As a content website owner doing SEO on my own for last 7 years, I feel lost with the current multiple changes in google SERPS because of Ai. The website has also lost about 50% of organic traffic in last 1-1.5 years.

I feel now I need someone to guide me in this highly volatile SE0 landscape. All the gurus I used to follow are all saying different things making it highly confusing.

Should I hire a new SEO person in the team or invest the same money in tools and supporting resources?

I would probably invest in the person before the tools. tools can give you data, but they won’t necessarily tell you which problems actually matter or what to prioritize after a major traffic drop.

If you have already been doing SEO for 7 years, I wouldn’t blindly buy another stack of tools. I would first get someone experienced to audit the site, traffic decline, content, technical setup, and what has changed in your SERPs. once you know where the problem is, then use tools to execute and monitor it.

the biggest mistake would be paying for an “SEO expert” who just logs into Ahrefs / Semrush and gives you the same reports you could generate yourself. Id look for someone who can explain what they would change, why they would change it, and how they will measure whether it worked.

Thank you, I will consider finding someone who is truly good at SEO and can help me during this stage.

I’d spend the money on a good SEO person before stacking more tools. Tools can show you what changed, but they won’t necessarily tell you why traffic dropped or what to prioritize.
I’ve seen site owners subscribe to 5 - 6 platforms and still struggle with the same issue. A capable SEO can audit the losses, compare competitors, review SERP changes, then use a few tools to validate the findings instead of collecting data without a clear direction.

Not just you, many people lost traffic after AI tools became popular. As you have experience in SEO, you should do an audit to figure out the industry-wide changes and find out where the missing traffic is going. If the traffic is going to a competitor site, then you can either hire an SEO expert or build backlinks to improve site authority. If the traffic is going to AI tools, then you should focus on brand mentions & citations. If the overall traffic has declined over the years, then there is not much you can do. Google has also made many changes to its algorithm recently that destroyed many whitehat sites. So, there could be multiple reasons for losing traffic and you can only identify the reasons after an audit.

It’s the same for me when doing SEO; the market changes so much, and we have to adapt quickly.

i’d put the money into a solid SEO person first tbh. more tools just give you more data to stare at, someone who knows what to actually do with it is way more useful right now.

In my opinion, I would surely hire an experienced SEO specialist from the vry start. tools will provide you with the data, but experience will show you how to utilise it.

Tools give data, but an expert knows what to do with it. Invest in the expert first.

That’s because I would invest in a good SEO professional right away if you know the tools even just part time. That way, an audit and strategy will prevent months of fruitless chase for Google updates.

Before hiring someone, get a proper audit done first. You need to know where the traffic was lost before spending more money.

I'd invest in an experienced SEO consultant first, not more tools. With a 50% traffic drop, you need to understand why rankings and traffic declined before spending more on software.

Get a proper audit identify the pages issue that lost traffic, then use tools to support the recovery strategy

I feel at the stage you are right now, getting help from someone who can guide you would be best.

You are currently overwhelmed with so much and don't know the best direction to follow for your website.

It might not even be about hiring someone to fix everything for you but rather getting someone who can give you a clear direction on what you should focus on and do next after they analyze and audit your website to understand the issues you're facing

Then, you can invest in tools if they are actually needed and you can probably solve some of the issues yourself cheaper that way.

I think I would try to get some experience. It would not be helpful before you learn to decode the signal which is not an easy task becuz of the sudden reduction in traffic.

If you want to build business to next level you should build a good team and make them to do the work even you are not there your business should run without you for weeks, even months. Instead of invest in tools and do it by yourself you can consider adding experienced SEO person and get an idea from them. Since you have an experience adding a new member will give you more energy and new ideas too!

I’d begin by talking with an SEO expert or consultant for guidance first, not rushing into a full time hire. Before anything else, figure out why your traffic slipped, then pick the right tools and sharpen your current content. If the work burden turns out to be too heavy, bring in an SEO person later on.

I would go with the expert first. You already have the tools, but a fresh perspective may help find what you are missing.

I would invest in an experienced seo person first rather than adding more tools Tools can provide data but someone who understands the data and can turn it into the right strategy is more valuable especially after a major traffic drop

If you already have solid SEO experience invest in an experienced SEO consultant before adding more tools Tools provide data but a good specialist can help interpret it and build a clear strategy around what is actually changing.
