It's both updates keep rankings stable but growth still comes from new content so you need a balance
Is blogging become more about maintaining rather than growing ?

I think that maintenance has become integral to growth rather than a separate entity from it. once there is much enough content on your blog, then working on existing pages that have been getting impressions, linkbacks, and some authority could work better than writing a fresh new article. i do write articles, but when i look for places to grow my site, the first thing I look into is my old pages.

Maintenance has definitely become a bigger part of blogging, A well maintained site usually performs better over time than one that only focuses on constantly publishing new posts.

It seems to me that maintenance becomes increasingly necessary as the size of the blog increases, but not at the expense of generating new material entirely.
Since some pages have established themselves as authoritative and have the ability to generate traffic, then working on those will yields very quick results.
generally, i search for pages that have lost their traffic or ranks, and i work on those.

I think modern blogging a mix of growth and maintenance. Creating new content is important but updating old posts, improving accuracy and fixing issues can often bring better results because existing pages already have authority.

I think it's both. I still write new posts, but I've had good results from updating older ones too.
Sometimes updating an older post is worth the time.

For me, i believe that it will be more about the decision on what not to maintain. There are many posts that continues to get updated inspite the fact that there is nothing to more to be gained from it, while others just need a bit of tweaiking to become worthwhile again.

It's a mix of both, new content helps you rank higher, while updating old content makes you stay ranked.

I think it's become a mix of both. Updating older content can often give better results than publishing something new. A well-maintained article that's kept accurate and useful can continue bringing traffic for years, so maintenance has definitely become a bigger part of blogging than it used to be.

Yes, updating old posts helps keep your top search rankings and traffic safe. Refreshing existing content is often faster and yields better results than starting from scratch.
In my opinion, maintennance becomes an integral part of the process, particulairly when the blog already has a substantial amount of content. However, there is no need to update all posts without thinking bcz some of them should be updated while other are just not relevant anymore. The trick is to know what needs to be done and also when.

The task will be different once a blog required has enough content. In the beginning you plant seeds and then you gonna prune some pages that were missed and merge some weak pages and post something new only if when it is necessary.

I always figure it’s easier to give your old posts a facelift now and then than to keep churning out brand new stuff and hoping Google catches on. Little things like swapping out outdated links, adding new stats from 2026, or even just tweaking the intro can keep a post cooking in the rankings. For me, using tools that spot dropping keywords is a total timesaver.
In the case of already existing sites 75 percent of the efforts will goes into trimming and updating the site. however merely updating the site is a form of decay you should also test out different approaches as well.

That is vry 100% true about recently. Keeping ur ranking through content refreshing has almost became mandatory at present although you need fresh postings if you were really looking to grows.

both are equally important.publishing of new articles is still important but updating those which perform the best has become equally important.changes happen to search results and AI summaries quite rapidly so it becomes important to keep your articles updated.
