The Hardest Part of SEO Isn’t Ranking #1

The best and most important is updating the site on a weekly basis to plug maintain lost / new backlinks count. I build links using automation tools however I always make sure my tier 1 links are live and before creating tier 2 backlinks. It's harder to make sure 100% some links I know permanent and I have full control like backlinks from para site / some of Money Robot / my own network links then I build tier 2 with GSA SER and always maintain the lost vs new backlinks ratio balance to keep the rankings and further improvements

One thing I've noticed in SEO discussions is that most of the conversation revolves around how to achieve top rankings. Link building, content creation, technical SEO, E-E-A-T, keyword research - almost everything is focused on getting a site into the Top 10.

But far fewer people talk about what happens after a site gets there. Because reaching the top is only part of the challenge. Staying there is a different game altogether. At that point, strategies begin to diverge.

Some teams continue building links every month without interruption. Others slow down or stop link building entirely and focus on content updates, UX improvements, and site maintenance. Some shift their attention almost entirely to CRO, internal linking, and extracting more value from the authority they've already built.

The reality is that there is no universal answer to what should happen once a site reaches the top.

At the same time, we continue to see projects gradually lose visibility despite having strong content and solid technical SEO, simply because competitors kept investing in authority growth. The longer I work in SEO, the more convinced I become that reaching the top and staying there are two completely different challenges.

And sometimes, staying there is the harder one...
this is one aspect that many people tend to ignore. after the ranking has been achieved the emphassis changes from how to rank to how to stay the best. it is amazing how much difference this can make in the long run.

I agree that maintaining rankings seems like a completely different challenge search results never stay still so regular updates and ongoing improvements appear just as important as reaching the top i am interested to hear what long term strategies others rely on to keep rankings stable

Absolutely agree. Reaching the top is one challenge but maintaining those rankings requires consistent effort and continuous improvement.

Ranking is only half the job. Maintaining rankings requires continuous improvements fresh content and adapting to changes in search results and competition.
