With AI and automation tools becoming more common, many SEO tasks can be completed faster.
Which parts of your workflow do you automate, and which tasks do you prefer doing manually?

I would focus on ones that are allowed, not against TOS. You can keep custom software private more likely than the subscriptions/lifetimes out there. Evergreen software to me is good, though you need an eye. Im trying to setup 5-7+ systems (outreach/web assets/offline) that are largely or wholly automated (Other than pressing a button/+maint. like startup. Even startup programs can be automated, old one right?

Link builder software, guest post outreach tools, SEO WP plugins, Citation maker vendors, paid services from wholesale SEO agency (mostly automatable*). AI is here, can use it for volume ranges. Tracking dashboards (Labrika) or AHREFS type monitor. Dont forget interlinking, Jetpack/Webmaster/Google Business. +Push notification plugin

So many choices to improve sites. I have some systems half setup, have to move forward with improvements/upgrades to my different marketing channels - one by one.
Think a minute.. Any of these methods taught by gurus can be revers engineered, improved by process and turned into SOP for VA, or a software feature on menu. Why do I say this? Because all the work on the computer in browser or even on desktop can be automated by Python tools. Im just a generalist in this, though theres advantages to always taking the birds eye view of things.

Clicks are great though you need to convert them with form likely for leads, or push to cart page. Theres even the option to send them off-site to a link which likely decreases time spent on page and some other metrics. Im sending people off my websites (lead gen.) to an evergreen webinar soon with my Webinarkit LTD. Have also PDF for newsletter offer chain lure, it all intertwines in ways, being online. Some people push articles to a master guide, cool. I ask for a phone call in CTA at the end of everything in the article, before the disclosure part. (:

Prioritizing things is often hard in this space because of all the hype of products/services, so I test a lot (more than anyone I know).

I use Claude/ChatGPT to for the On-Page, but for off-page I use AI browsers like Comet by Perplexity and Atlas by Chatgpt. I use the browser for outreach only. I still verify the website value, traffic and check matrix manually.

I automate things like keyword research, reporting, and content outlines. Strategy, content review, and link decisions are still things I prefer to do manually.

Try to focus on manually to remain on safe side. But you can use some parts via AI but you should check before posting that article specially in any where. Because via AI rubbish contents always there. So mind this aspect too.

Currently I am also looking for an optimal automated reporting tool. Could you share more about the tools you usually use to automate research and reporting?

to me automation saves me time rather than being an alternative. i automate things such as the grouping of keywords, content briefs nd ranking checks. however when it comes to writing, verification of the data, enhancement of the readability of the information provided nd understanding the needs of the user i find it best done manualy.

I automate the repetitive stuff like rank tracking, site audits, reporting, crawling, and organizing keyword or backlink data. AI also helps me with content briefs and first drafts. But some tasks ill do it by personally like keyword research analysis, competitor research, link prospect qualification, outreach personalization, technical SEO decisions, and final content optimization.

I like automating tasks that follow the same pattern every week but I still review everything before making changes. A quick manual check often catches things automation can easily miss.

I think you should give it a chance. An old page with followers is better than creating a new one from nothing.

We mostly automate things like reporting, tracking, keyword clustering, and the data collection process.

But when it comes to content strategy, outreach, link prospecting, and choosing backlink opportunities, we still prefer doing those manually.

Those decisions usually need human judgment, and we've found they lead to much better results.

I automate repetitive tasks like keyword clustering basic audits and data collection to save time but i still do content planning backlink evaluation competitor analysis and final seo decisions manually AI is a helpful assistant but i do not rely on it for everything because experience and human judgment still matter

What I automate
Rank tracking. No reason to check positions manually every day.
GSC and Analytics reporting. Automated weekly pulls into a sheet. I look at the summary, not the raw data every morning.

Broken link checks via Screaming Frog on a schedule, or the My Links Chrome extension for quick spot checks on live pages. Both do the job without overcomplicating it.

Internal link discovery I do semi manually. I keep a spreadsheet of my pillar pages and run a quick site:search or use Screaming Frog to surface pages that mention the target keyword but don't link to it yet. Takes more time but the suggestions are actually relevant.

Basic on page audits, Site crawls, missing meta descriptions, duplicate titles, thin pages. All automated on a schedule.

What I do manually, always
Content briefs. No tool understands search intent the way we human can read the top 10 results do. Automated briefs produce average content targeting average interpretations of a keyword.

Anchor text decisions for backlinks. This is where people get burned. Automating anchor text at scale is how you build an unnatural profile. Every anchor gets chosen by hand.

Link prospecting and outreach. Tools can find sites. They cannot judge whether a site is actually worth a link from or whether the editor will respond to a cold email. That judgment is manual.

Content editing. AI can draft. It cannot replace someone who knows the niche reading the final version.

Penalty and traffic drop analysis. When something goes wrong you need a human brain connecting the dots across multiple signals. Automated alerts tell you something happened. They don't tell you why.

The honest line I use
Automate anything where speed matters and judgment doesn't. Keep manual anything where a wrong call costs you rankings, money or a client relationship.

Most SEO mistakes I have seen came from automating the second category.

Automate repetitive tasks like site audits still prefer doing keyword research content planning and backlink evaluation manually because they require human judgment.

Automation helps me manage SEO activities such as keyword monitoring, site checks, and reporting. I prefer handling content optimization, audience research, and strategic planning manually because these areas need human judgment and a deeper understanding of goals.

Today, I managed to automate 100% of my SEO operations, and the best part is the centralized context.

I use a mix of existing tools and my own made to handle tasks from topic research to outreach.
