Hello everyone,

I am planning to launch a forum dedicated to SEO, where professionals and enthusiasts can discuss real-time challenges related to SEO, Social media, Content marketing, and other digital marketing strategies.

I would appreciate any recommendations on free platforms or website builders that allow the creation of a forum without upfront costs. Ideally, I am looking for a user-friendly and scalable solution.

You can do it with some WordPress plugins just search for it. But without budget for marketing or managing bots to create questions and answer them , you have 0 chance

Try Discourse, phpBB, or MyBB if you’re okay with self-hosting. For easier options, ProBoards, Tapatalk, or even a Reddit community could work. If you’re using WordPress, bbPress is a solid choice.

I’d also think about the long-term side before choosing the platform. Moving an active forum later can be a headache, so it’s better to start with something that has room to grow. Flarum is probably the nicest option if you want a modern interface and low server requirements. Discourse is excellent too, but it needs more resources and maintenance. phpBB is still reliable if you prefer a traditional forum structure. More important than the software, though, is having quality content from day one. Seed the forum with useful discussions, guides, and real case studies so new visitors have something worth joining. A quiet forum with no conversations is much harder to grow than one that already looks active and helpful.

I agree that choosing the platform is only one part of building a successful forum. Many people focus too much on the technical side and forget that the hardest part is getting the first active members and quality discussions. For an SEO community especially, trust is everything. People will join if they see useful case studies, honest experiments, and members sharing real experience instead of just generic advice. I would start small with a few focused categories rather than creating dozens of empty sections. Once conversations begin growing, you can expand the structure. A good community feeling will always matter more than having the most advanced forum software from day one.

the challenging task lies in ensuring that those initial active users take part. I would choose to identify a particular niche nd then start the conversation nd gain some trust before thinking about scalability.

I'd start with discourse or flarum. Both are solid modern and easy to scale.

platform might be important, but what is actually neded is activity generation. An efficiently run forum with active discusions nd trustworthy users wil develop more quickly than the best posible setup that has no discussions whatsoever.

selecting the software will not be the hard part. the hard part will be ensuring there is motivation for the member to return. It is alway better to have a working niche, quality conversation and a few active members than forum function.
