Why did I get a restriction from sending DMs and sharing links?

When I sent a DM today, a red cross appeared next to it and I got a notification from Instagram that they have restricted me from sending DMs and also sharing links for 1 month due to “The account, or activity on it, may deceive others to take their money, property or personal information”.

Now, first of all I don’t share any links on DMs or anywhere. Second of all, when I appealed both of these restrictions, they got lifted immediately.

The I only thing I can point a finger at is that I offer Instagram services so my initial DM to them includes stuff like “hi you’re posting great content” “I can give you free tips which will help you get clients from Instagram”. Is this a red flag? Do I need to change this?

Also I send 3 different variations of this DM but they are similar as all offer free tips. Is this also a red flag?

I requested a review of these restrictions and they immediately got lifted but I still see a yellow exclamation in the “features you can’t use” section of the account status and it says I can’t send links till a month.

So I only use one account, home WiFi and 5g, no automation or proxies, manual follow unfollow.

My actions include around 25 follows per day, comment on 12-15 of them, 19-20 unfollows, DMing only those people who follow back or reply to my comments.

So was this just a glitch from the meta algorithm or something I should worry about?

What solutions do you recommend?

It usually comes from the whole pattern, not one line in the DM. Similar first messages, repeated follows/unfollows, then outbound DMs off the same account can look like a lead-gen loop to Meta even if you never paste a link. I’d cool it off for a bit and stop pushing outbound activity from that profile.
 
It could just be a false flag, especially if the appeal was approved right away. But I'd still change the DM a bit. Sending very similar messages over and over can get flagged, even if you're doing it manually.
 
It sounds like your DM message was flagged as promotional. Even if you mean well, sending similar messages can trigger Instagram filters. Try making each message more personal, slow down your outreach, and avoid repeating the same wording.

the wording matters, "deceive others" means they flagged the link, not just the dm pace. personalizing helps but if youre still dropping the same external url in dms on a young account itll just re-trigger. two things: dont send links in dms at all early, put it in bio or story and say "link in bio", and treat this 1 month block as a soft strike, if you keep trying to push links through it it escalates to a longer or permanent one. let it cool and warm the account with normal no-link dms first. was it a fresh domain or a shortener you were sending?
 
This is a combination of algorithmic/AI moderation errors by Meta and repetitive messaging behavior that Instagram mistakenly identifies as spam.
 
While your DM volume is not very high, the use of repetitive messaging using similar phrases can cause your messages to be marked as spam by the system. You should make an effort to vary your messages and avoid being too promotional at first and give the profile some rest for a few days.
 
new or non warm instagram profiles get limit in sending messages,it is advise to use aged warmed profiles in sending mass messages.warmed profile can get approve with interactions on other profile to achieve warming process for mass usage.
 
Seeing as you were swiftly approved after appeal really does make it seam like an automated flag which turned out to be a false-positive.
For the cold DMs though, I suppose it all comes down to approach. However legitimate it is, if it's poorly thought out, it is still gonna resemble spam. Even more so if you happen to repeatedly DM people you don't know.
Your activity numbers don't sound particularly extreme, and since you're doing everything manually on one account, it should be more or less fine. I'd probably just vary your messaging more, avoid sending too many similar DMs in a short period, and focus on warming up conversations naturally before pitching anything, etc. etc.
As for the yellow exclamation mark, sometimes account status indicators take a while to update even after restrictions are lifted, so I'd keep an eye on it rather than assuming something is still wrong.
 
try to scrape their profiles and have AI make a personalised message, this will decrease the risk for sure and make things easier for you. you can also include the core of the message itself into the outreach but in my experience it works way better just to interact with people first
 
Slow down your action avoid sending repetitive messages and focus on genuine interaction for a while. Getting DM and link restrictions usually means the platform detected unusual activity or possible spam signal. the restriction often lifts with patience.

You've probably been shadow banned because you've been sending too many DMs. I don't believe that this was a false shadow ban, I suggest let the account res ftor a couple of days and then continue but send less dms per day.
 
The actual reason is; anytime you login to a new device and then you change the username; Instagram will prevent you from sharing links or sending dms for 30 days. If you want to by pass this, there are a couple ways to do it.
