I often see accounts growing very quickly despite posting fairly average content Is Instagram growth now influenced more by consistency engagement patterns and retention signals rather pure content quality alone

Because on Instagram, growth isn’t just about content quality. Distribution, timing, consistency, niche fit, and how well the account fits a specific audience all matter a lot too. Some accounts also benefit from strong hooks, early engagement, or a format that makes the content easy to consume, even if the content itself is only average.

Average content can still grow fast if the account has the right positioning and keeps feeding the algorithm something it can push.

Content quality alone stopped being enough a long time ago

Instagram cares more about behavioral signals now:
  • watch time
  • rewatches
  • shares
  • saves
  • comments
  • consistency
  • how fast people interact after posting
I’ve seen average-looking Reels do millions just because the hook in the first 2 seconds was strong
Meanwhile some creators spend 10 hours editing cinematic content that people scroll past instantly

The algorithm rewards retention way more than effort

It's all about engagement. Bad content that gets a lot of engagement is good content to the algorithm. The longer and more often users engage with your content the more valuable the algorithm will deem it

It can be random push from Instagram. But it does not mean you can get away long with average content. Your focus should be to improve content with every upload.

Maybe they have strong hooks and bring more traffic that way, even though the rest of the video is average,

Idk what your experience is but at the moment growing instagram its pretty much straight forward as it gets, and the most easy time to do it too, i might be lucky but all i do is take my viral reels from main account re-edit them repost and it goes viral again, this month i started 2 new accounts in first days of july and they both passed 50k followers by now, i still think its a bit luck based + obviously content
