I am new to SEO and trying to understand how things in a simple way . I have come across the idea of consistency a few times but do not fully get it yet.

Why is consistency important in white hat SEO , and how does it affect a website's ranking over time?

I believe that consistency is not so much about regular publishing as it is about the continuail improvement of the website according to your findings. It does not matter how often you publish when you do not improve anything. consistency brings value only when you review which pages work well, which do not , improve your internal linking, and repeat what works for you.
 
consistency matters because seo usually builds over time regularly publishing useful content improving existing pages and earning quality backlinks tends to produce better longterm results than short bursts of activity

The one thing that many forget is that being consistent will also give you a great feedback loop.
If you alter 5 aspects of your SEO and then see an improvement in rankings, you have no clue what made it happen.
Being consistent will allow you to test, measure, do it again and not get disstracted by minor ranking changes.
Therefore, being consistent to me isn’t just about publishing content; it’s about making sound decisions too.

The key aspect that is often over looked by many is the fact that consistenicy will give you ample time to find out what works. This is bcz when you keep on changing your content, links, and approach from one week to another, it becomes very difficult to link these desired results to any particular thing.
