I'm new to organic dropshipping, and I'd like to ask the most effective way to test products:

Option 1: Create several Instagram accounts and test one product on each account. If one of them goes viral, then start building the store and look for a supplier.

Option 2: Research one promising product first, find a supplier, then focus on testing that product on a single Instagram account for about 2–3 weeks. If it performs well, build the store. If not, move on to another product.

The issue is that I want to sell potential products, because i think if a product goes viral, new accounts pop up everywhere and it becomes much harder to compete.

I usually look for suppliers on AliExpress, but not every product has a supplier with enough inventory. Sometimes the product isn't even available on AliExpress.

So here's my concern:

  • If I choose Option 1, by the time a product goes viral and I start looking for a supplier, I might not be able to find one selling that product. Or I might find one, but they don't have enough inventory, or there are other issues like slow shipping, etc.
  • If I choose Option 2, I can focus only on testing the product, but it takes much longer, and it's easy to get discouraged if the product doesn't work.
Does anyone have a good product testing method or workflow that you'd be willing to share? I'd really appreciate hearing any methods or workflows that have worked well for you. Thanks!

I'd lean toward Option 2.
It's slower, but validating the supplier first helps avoid problems with inventory and shipping. A reliable product with consistent fulfillment is usually better than chasing every viral trend.

pick 1 product, lock down 2-3 backup suppliers before testing, then test 2–3 weeks so you’re not scrambling if it pops

I'd blend the two - shortlist a few promising products, confirm a backup supplier for each before testing, then run short 1-2 week tests on each. That way you're not locked into a single bet and you're not scrambling for a supplier if something takes off.

you are overthinking the supplier part. if a product actually goes viral, you can find a private agent on skype or telegram who will source it for you in 24 hours, even if it's not on aliexpress. the hardest part is getting the algorithm to love your videos, not the sourcing. i'd go with option 1 but keep a list of 2-3 sourcing agents ready to contact the second a video crosses 50k views. no point wasting weeks setting up a store for a product that gets 200 views.

I wouldn’t wait for it to go viral before checking sourcing, but I also wouldn’t build the whole store first. Do a quick sanity check on 1688/AliExpress/image search, make sure there’s at least 2 possible sources and the margin isn’t trash, then test the content hard for 7-10 days. @alexdann the metric I’d watch isn’t just views, it’s buying intent in comments... “where can I get this”, “need this”, people tagging friends, saves etc. A video can hit 100k and still be useless if everyone is just laughing at the product.
