I recently came across an agency that advertises a service where they automate "daily activity" for businesses to increase engagement, which they claim helps improve local rankings and visibility.
I'm not looking for a step-by-step guide to copying it—I’m mostly interested in understanding how these systems are built under the hood. I have a pretty solid technical background, but this is a space I haven't explored before.
For anyone who's worked with or researched this kind of automation:

For anyone who's worked with or researched this kind of automation:
- What does the overall architecture typically look like?
- What technologies are commonly involved? (Android emulators, real devices, proxies, GPS/location handling, device fingerprinting, browser automation, etc.)
- What are the biggest technical challenges or bottlenecks?
- Are there common mistakes people make when trying to build systems like this?
- If you were starting from scratch and just wanted to understand how it all works, what would you recommend learning first?
