What is the most unexpected source of traffic you've had ?

Yeah Reddit can bring huge traffic when a post goes viral, but it’s very unpredictable and hard to control or replicate consistently unless you are actively engaging with the same niche communities.

for me it was reddit. one post unexpectedly picked up traction and kept sending traffic for months. i tried to replicate it later but it showed me that community driven traffic can sometimes outperform what you expect from search.

I've had a weird burst of traffic once from obscure Facebook groups where someone shared my post without tagging me at all. Sometimes I also see traffic spikes from niche Discord servers I never even joined, which cracks me up. I keep Google Alerts on for my blog name so at least I get a heads-up on these random backlinks. Reddit always feels like a coin toss, but worth a punt if your content’s spicy.

The results you've shared look promising. Before deciding, could you please send me a sample that matches exactly what you're offering in this thread? I'd like to review the quality and see how it fits my project.

if something like tyhat works it's worth checking what exactly made it click and then creating a few similar posts the sane angel instead of just one off content.

An old blog post suddenly started getting traffic again after someone shared it in a relevant online community.

Hi everyone,

Have you ever had a blog post get significant traffic from a source you weren't expecting ? What was it and did you try to replicate it ?
At time it is not the channel that matter but the timing of its use. I have seen how old posts get republised to crete random visits from reddit and facebook but for me it never works becuz I am unfamiiar with the thread.

Pinterest when my pins got real traction, they also brought a lot of traffic to my website.

One surprise for me was getting traffic from image search. I had not optimized for it specifically but a few well labeled images started bringing visitors over time. After noticing that i paid more attention to image filenames, alt text and adding useful visuals to new articles.

For me, it was internal links. After linking older articles to a newer one, I noticed the newer page started getting traffic than I expected.

One unexpected source for me was email forwards. A newsletter i sent got shared between people and one older article suddenly received a lot more traffic than usual. Since then i have made my content easier to share and included more practical resources that people are likely to pass along.

Xvideos comments, my username was the name of my website

from my experience one of the biggest surprises was an older blog post suddenly picking up traffic from search months after it was published that made me realize updating existing content can sometimes be just as valuable as publishing new articles

upvoted youtube comments with a link could make 1k$ per day in 2016-2017

Anything that goes viral i made some comment with my website name video goes viral and i got a huge trafic

Honestly, the most unexpected traffic I've had came from someone sharing my post in a newsletter.
I wasn't tracking that source at all, so it was a nice surprise.

Yes, one of my posts unexpectedly got picked up by Reddit and ended up bringing in way more traffic than google for a few days.I tried sharing other posts there too, but it was not as easy to repeat. I guess the topic and timing both mattered.

Through reddit. Few years before were golden times for getting traffic through reddit. I remember there were lot of threads as BSTs on BHW as well but now they are all dead.
