[Journey] Trying Rank Any Low–Mid Competition Niche on YouTube

Hey everyone,


Starting this journey to test whether YouTube SEO can still work in low to mid competition niches, especially without needing massive channels or crazy budgets.


I will not be sharing the exact niches, keywords, channels, or money pages, but I will share real progress along the way — rankings, impressions, CTR, search traffic, views, screenshots, and anything useful I learn from the tests.


The main goal is to rank YouTube videos and use them to drive targeted traffic to my money pages. I am more interested in traffic that can actually convert than random views, so I will be focusing on searchable topics where people are already looking for a solution, product, comparison, or information.


For most of the tests I will be using aged YouTube channels instead of fresh ones. I also want to see how much difference things like titles, thumbnails, descriptions, tags, upload timing, early traffic, and CTR view manipulation can make when trying to get videos moving.


I will probably test different approaches, change thumbnails or titles when something is underperforming, and see which videos start ranking in search or getting picked up in suggested.


Not expecting every upload to work. Some will probably do nothing, some might rank slowly, and some may need changes after a few days or weeks. I will share the bad results too, not only the wins.


AI will only be used sometimes to save time with title ideas, descriptions, tags, or organizing content. It is not the main focus here.


Things I will track:

• Search rankings
• Impressions and CTR
• YouTube search traffic
• Watch time and retention
• Clicks going to the money pages
• How aged channels perform
• Thumbnail and title tests
• Which videos bring traffic and which ones stay dead

Let’s see if there is still room to make YouTube work with proper niche selection, decent videos, and consistent testing.

Update: We're ranking for some keywords already.

It depends on the niche and competitors. The video I just upped is about 3 mins long.
My competitors have longer videos which is better for them in this particular niche.

But, I'm doing CTR + HR Manipulation to get better percentages for different keywords so I can overthrow them.

Attached a small update on it.

For this video all keywords I aimed for are ranking number one. I will try to keep delivering views to the video and see how long it can keep up.
No conversions to my money pages yet though. Let's see in a few hours and in the meantime I will prepare another video.

A little update on the rankings. I'm still sending views to the video as the competitors are harsh on this niche. Pretty sure if I stop sending views it will derank within a few days even if not for all of the keywords.
An eample would be another video I posted earlier before starting this journey.

UPDATE
Still ranking for my main targetted keywords.
Not sending any more views since yesterday. Getting some traffic to the money page, expected better for these keywords tbh.

Now moving on to recording and editing next video.

Uploaded a new video today on a really high competitice niche. Bought views and now waiting how this test goes on a small channel.

Some keywords have started ranking even if this niche is very high comp. Which is good!

I'm pretty happy with this test. If I keep sending high traffic of views to the video it can rank and keep up with more keywords. Best is if I had a good channel for these high comp keywords of course but still.

I'm using smm panels, but views aren't cheap, trying to get a good sub account so I don't have to buy a lot of views to rank.

For some niches I use Google Trends, also Researching trending products for Amazon Affiliate

Very weird! Today I uploaded a similar video on two channels with the same sub amount. The channels were quite similar.
One channel died out while the other channel not only survived but ranked for some of the high competition keywords.
Not sure what YouTube, bases this one on.

Which website do you use to track this rankings

This is a very interesting informative journey. Can you say anything about the keywords you're tagering? The number of views seama low for being #1 for those keywords. What monthly searches they have?

Views are low on this keyword. But there are a lot of uploads daily that make it pretty hard to keep the #1 spot. I'm targetting this cause of the high ROI it can bring.
Think of Roblox niche with the daily uploads and huge channels but not as much views.

New video uploaded yesterday! Tried something new with the views I bought!
It worked wonders, still sending small amounts to the video throughout.
This is keeping good ranking for this niche on a small sub account! Pretty nice to see I can outrank high sub comp with this. I'll see if it's worth it though.
