I think content promotion is becoming just as important as content creation, if not more important in some niches.
These days, publishing a blog and waiting for organic traffic isn't enough. There is simply too much content competing for attention. A lot of website owners spend hours writing an article and then only a few minutes promoting it.
For example, I run a business called Hatchlift Products in the RV space. Recently, I published a blog post titled "The Difference Between a Stressful Camping Trip and a Relaxing One." Instead of relying entirely on search engines, I focused on getting the content in front of people who are actually interested in camping, RV travel, and outdoor lifestyles.
One strategy I've been using is content syndication. Rather than letting the article sit on my website, I repurpose and distribute it across different platforms such as Medium, Substack, niche communities, forums, and social platforms. Sometimes I'll rewrite parts of the article, create a summary version, or share key takeaways to reach different audiences.
The biggest benefits I've seen from content promotion and syndication are:
More eyeballs on the content
Increased brand awareness
Additional referral traffic
Faster indexing and content discovery
Opportunities for backlinks and mentions
More chances to build authority within a niche
I've also noticed that promoting content often helps me understand what topics resonate most with readers. The engagement, comments, and discussions can provide ideas for future content that I might never have considered otherwise.
In my opinion, great content is still the foundation. If the article isn't useful, promotion won't save it. But even the best article can go unnoticed if nobody sees it. That's why I try to spend almost as much time promoting a piece of content as I do creating it.
As another example, I recently published a blog called "Why the Best Camping Memories Usually Come From the Simplest Moments." The article itself is important, but the real results come from consistently sharing it with the right audience through syndication, social platforms, and relevant communities.
So if you ask me whether content promotion is more important than content creation today, I'd say they're both essential—but content promotion is often the missing piece that determines whether great content succeeds or disappears.
