brand new legal site 10 days in, impressions dropping already?? normal?

Hey guys,

Started a brand new site in the law niche like 10 days ago. Getting literally 0 traction, only 6 clicks so far and now impressions are starting to drop. GSC hourly graph is all over the place like a roller coaster.

Should I keep adding content or is it not worth it?

Pls drop some advice if u have experience with this. Thanks!

10 days old with avg position in the 30-90 range is exactly where a new legal site should be, this is normal not a red flag.
keep publishing, the volatility you're seeing is google still figuring out where to even place you

rough estimate, how long does it usually take for a fresh site to stabilize in gsc?

also is it possible to rank in this niche with just good content, or are backlinks absolutely mandatory from the start?

ally 2-3 months before things stop bouncing around like that, legal though backlinks aren't optional, ymyl needs trust signals content alone won't cover

paid guest posts on relevant legal/niche blogs work fastest, harO (now connectively) is free and great for legal expert quotes too.
forget wikipedia. wikipedia links are nofollow anyway and adding them yourself gets reverted instantly, not worth the effort
 
Why are you measuring your seo progress only basis of 10 days. Google takes time to trust your website. Keep building link and quality content. Make sure website is free of Technical issues, it should rise slowly over time.
 
10 days is way too early to be reading anything into GSC, that hourly graph means nothing right now. @Crypto Man is right about the 2-3 month window before it settles.

On the backlinks thing, for legal you cant skip it but dont rush out buying a pile of guest posts week one either. Get your on-page and topical coverage solid first, fix any technical stuff like @JessiPinkme said, then start layering links slowly so it looks natural. HARO is solid advice, legal gets picked up a lot there since journalists always need someone to quote on rulings and whatnot.

One thing nobody mentioned, make sure your site has proper author bios, real credentials, about page, contact, privacy. Google is fussy about that trust stuff on ymyl and a lot of new sites skip it. Wont rank you by itself but missing it can hold you back.

Keep publishing and stop checking GSC every hour honestly, its just gonna stress you out.
 
legal is brutal tbh. if you are trying to rank for high commercial intent keywords like "car accident lawyer" or whatever, you wont touch page one without thousands in link spend. you need to find informational long tails that the big firms arent targeting. think specific local court questions or niche legal definitions.

also dont just buy guest posts yet. start with some basic pillow links... social profiles, maybe some local citations if you have an address. it helps build that initial trust layer before you start hitting it with heavy guest posts. and yeah, give it at least 3-6 months before you expect any real traction.

i checked my site on Google PageSpeed Insights and the score is 90+ for both mobile and desktop. so speed is good.

but i just ran a free Ahrefs site audit and my health score is only 20%! it shows a lot of errors.

why is Ahrefs showing so many errors when Google speed is 90+? what are the most common technical errors i should fix first on Ahrefs for a new site?
 
It's absolutely normal. Let it dance until it gets tired and settles somewhere, then you can worry about improving your rankings.
 
For a 10 day old legal site, I wouldn’t stress it. New sites jump around a lot at the start, and legal is a tough niche where trust matters more. Check if the pages are indexed, what queries are showing in GSC, and whether the drop is sitewide or just a few pages.
