How do you know when an SEO strategy is actually working?

one of the earliest signs is seeing your keywords move up in rankings even if they are not on the firdt page yet. An increase in impressions and more pages getting indexed are alsogood indicators that your seo strategy i sworking and gaining traction.

High impressions and low clicks is the initial signal. It indicates that the site is getting discovered by visitors but most of them are not clicking the pages in SERPs. As soon as the ranking improves, you'll start seeing the traffic.

SEO results usually take time, so it can be diffuicult to know whether you're moving in the right direction. What early signs do you look for before rankings and traffic start improving?
CTR and impressions improving before traffic is usually a good sign the strategies is working

The End of Goal of SEO is traffic converting into paying customer/client. As long I am getting enough traffic and it converting easily then I will be happy about my SEO strategy.

"its not only about traffic, it's the traffic that actually converts."

GSC impressions for sure. If you see that line ticking up, you know you're on the right track and traffic will follow.

Also, keep an eye on positions. Moving from page 5 or 6 up to page 2 or 3 is a solid early sign.

Rankings can fluctuate, but if the website is gaining more relevant traffic and users are actually engaging with the content, that's a much stronger signal than keyword positions alone.

You know it's working when organic traffic, keyword rankings, conversions and qualified leads improve consistently over time.

Higher imperessions, faster indexing and improved keyword position signal positive seo progress.

I look for gradual improvements across the entire site instead of one viral page. Consistency is a much stronger signal.

Ranking metrics apart from that, I mostly loo at impressons & average posiions growng steadily in long-tail searches on Google Search Console
Moreover, faster crawl rate and impressions for more pages (even with a lower click through rate) are additional indicators of rising topical authority

Before any changes occur in ranking I would expect to see the early signs of crawl relevance such as increased number of pages being indexed, increased impressions in GSC, and appearance of queries (even those ranking poorly at 20 80 range). When that is happening weekly, you are moving in the right direction

I usually look for steady keyword movement and better impressions before traffic starts to grow.

Better impression and indexing come first

The Google search console offers real insight but the real deal will be your google analytics dashboard! the engagement or sales you make too is an easy tell

I stop looking at rankings and traffic early on, because those are lagging. The stuff that moves first is in Search Console. Impressions and average position on your long-tail queries start shifting weeks before clicks do, that is your earliest real signal. Watch the number of distinct queries you rank for climbing too, even at page 3 or 4, it means Google is starting to trust the pages.

Other early tells: index coverage growing (are new pages actually getting indexed and staying), and crawl frequency picking up in your logs or the GSC crawl stats. If Google is crawling you more often, it has decided you are worth revisiting.

If impressions and indexed pages are climbing, you are moving in the right direction even while traffic is flat. If they are dead after a month, something is wrong regardless of what your rank tracker says.

For me the first positive signs are better indexing more keywords starting to rank and impressions increasing even before traffic grows If those metrics keep improving I know the strategy is moving in the right direction Rankings and clicks usually follow with a bit more and consistency.

I monitor crawl activity, Search Console impressions, and new keyword visibility. Those metrics usually improve before clicks and traffic follow.
