How Do You Know When a Backlink Is Actually Valuable?

Hello

With so many metrics available now then it was getting harder to judge the real value of a backlink. DA, DR, traffic and authority metrics do not always tell the full story.

What factors do experienced SEOs look at before considering a link worth building?

Relevance, traffic, placement, history, link profile or something else?

relevance - even if it is a DA0 domain. I'll myself check what content the publisher posts and avoid PBN.
traffic is not important.
placement - yes.. it should be within an article. no footer/sitewide or other links.
history - nope.
link profile - yes. I'll will check manually where the outgoing links point. if they point to irrelevant or casino sites I will not buy links on that site.
 
yeah, metrics are just a filter. i’d mostly check topical relevance, where the link sits on the page, and whether the site has a habit of linking out to random unrelated stuff.
 
DA and DR are useful for a quick check but I always look at the site's organic traffic backlink history and overall trustworthiness before building a link there
 
Backlinks from relevant traffic pages. That's it. With traffic sites
 
The first thing I check is whether the link makes sense for real users Natural placement quality content and a healthy backlink profile matter more than DA or DR alone
 
the experienced seo's factors are many, such relevancy, do linking page has relevancy content, is linking website related, there is good for growing traffic, should be real ranking organic keywords, another factor, is page indexed and allowed for crawling, there is no seo for no index
 
For me relevance is the first thing I look at A link from a site that is closely related to the niche often feels more valuable than strong metrics alone.

there is a very simple way of determining the worth of a link and that is by finding out if the link will still have value for me without taking into acount how it will be viewd by google in its ranking.
 
Relevance and placement matters the most for me. I also check website's real traffic, a clean backlink profile and content. A relevant contextual backlink is usually more valuable then high DR link from unrelated website.
 
DA, DR and other metrics are important as a starting point when choosing a domain. The volume of outbound links is also important. You also need to look at organic traffic and the niche of the site. It must be relevant so the link passes the necessary authority, and naturally it should be placed in the main content, not somewhere in the footer or sidebar.
 
I look at relevance first. A DR80 link from an unrelated site can be less valuable than a DR30 link from a site in the same niche. After that I check if the page gets real traffic, where the link is placed, and whether the site has a natural backlink profile. If it can send actual visitors, it's usually a good sign.
 
For me the biggest factor is relevance above everything else. I'd rather have a link from a DA 20 site that's directly in my niche than a DA 60 site about something completely unrelated. I also check the actual page where the link would sit - is it getting organic traffic? Does the content look natural or obviously paid? The placement matters a lot too. An in-content link in a well-written article is worth way more than a sidebar or footer link. I've seen too many high-DR sites that are basically link farms with no real readership. If a site has good topical authority and real traffic, that's what I look for.
 
For me relevance is the most important factor I would rather get a link from a relevant website with real organic traffic than a high metric site with little value I also look at content quality link placement and whether the site has a natural backlink profile
 
What I believe as a beginner is that quality, relevance and real engagement are important for a valuable backlink.
 
A backlink is valuable to me when it's relevant to the niche and placed naturally within useful content metrics are just one part of the picture
 
A link from a site in your niche carries much more weight than a stronger site in an unrelated industry. So, it is more about relevancy than any factor.
 
I think relevance is the most important factor. A backlink from a trusted site in your niche is usually more valuable than one with just high DA or DR. I also check if the site has real traffic and Quality content.

If it's from a highly relevant authoritative website/blog then it is a good backlink.
