Over the last couple of years I have noticed that many well-known brands seem to rank even when their pages are not necessarily better optimized than smaller competitors. It makes me wonder whether Google is pplacing much more emphasis on brand recogniton and user trust than technical SEO. for those working on both established brands and newer websites have you noticed the same trend? If so, how are you adopting your SEO strategy

That’s actually true - Google depends a lot on brand factors nowadays CTR, brand mentions, entity trust, backlinks from authoritative websites), not only on on-page SEO factors
The solution for new website is creating topical authority branded searches. Otherwise, it will be hard to compete even with perfect optimizaion.

I think technical SEO has become the minimum requirement rather than the main advantage strong brands get better engagement more mentions and more trust signals which often helps them outperform smaller sites

I don't think its branding instead of technical SEO, its branding on top of technical SEO, a few years ago you could sometimes outrank bigger players with better optimization alone but in 2026 Google seems to rely much more on trust signals, brand searches, mentions, authority and user behavior especially in competitive niches.

Technical SEO is still important because it gives Google a well structured, fast and crawlable site but if two sites are technically similar the stronger brand often wins.

Yes this is something a lot of SEOs are noticing lately. Bigger brands often benefit from stronger trust signals and user behavior so they can outrank even when on-page SEO isn’t perfect.

Yes, that is definitely happening. Google relies very heavily on signals from brands now – things like click behavior, search demand, and entity reputation can be more important than anything else on page
In the case of new websites, this means the focus should be on establishing topical authority as well as brand searches not just keywords.

what changed for me was keyword selection. I spend less time looking for search volume and more time looking for gaps the big players ignore

what i believe through my experiences is branding become more important than before but technical optimization remains important for a successful SEO strategy.

I've noticed the same. Technical SEO is still important, but branding, user trust, and authority seem to carry much more weight now. Strong brands naturally earn more clicks, mentions, backlinks, and engagement signals.

I think branding has become much more important, but technical seo still matters. A strong brand can get more clicks, mentions, and trust signals, which gives it an advantage. For newer website, I focus on both technical seo and building brand presence through communities, social platforms and consistent visibility. Today, ranking is not just about optimizing pages anymore.

today the technical SEO is merely a starting point, not an actual competitive edge. those working within a competitve market will have more succes when it comes to their brand.

yeah, technical seo feels more like the baseline now. for smaller sites i’d still fix the basics, but put more effort into narrow topics, trust signals, and keywords the big brands are too lazy to cover properly.
