i have worked with websites that post blog articles, also i came to conclusion that this method only activates google news tab on GSC, but to get fully approved on hoogle news without site: is very hard
 
yeah that makes sense @mangoone1. noticed this on a few of my test sites last year... the gsc tab shows up but zero actual traffic. google changed the process a while back so anyone can get the publisher center "approval" but getting indexed in the actual news feed without using site: is the real bottleneck now. still, if your article tips help with indexing it might be worth a shot for some people here.
 
The Google News approval cannot be guaranteed or “done for free” by anyone, and it’s only possible because of the high content quality and correct structure of the website.
Use caution when you’re offered any workarounds here, and concentrate on creating unique content and building clear categories and E-E-A-T instead.
