Hi

I have been noticing something odd across a few projects. Some pages are actually getting impressions and even decent rankings but the CTR is almost zero.

It feels like google is showing the page but not really pushing user to click it.

Has anyone figured out what was causing this shift ?

Is it SERP features, intent match or something else affecting clicks even when rankings are stable?

Yes, this is also happens with me I have also experienced that ranking and impressions improved regularly but clicks not. In my opinion user intent works the most to push user to click on the web-page.

it happens quite often now. even if position and impressions are fine then CTR can drop when google changes how results are shown or when users already get the answer direct on SERP. Small title tweaks sometimes make a difference.

seen this a lot recently. even when rankings are fine but CTR drops because google is filling more SERP space with snippets, ads and ai answers. so users often get what they need without clicking.

yeah this usually happens when SERP featuires take most of the clicks (AI overview, snippets, ads etc.). Even if the rankings are stable then users do not always click through anymore. CTR drops is becoming pretty common now.
it makes sense. even if positions stay stable, SERP layout changs can really kill clicks now. AI boxes and snippets are taking a lot of attention so CTR drops are becoming pretty normal across a lot of niches.

I would start by looking at the SERP itself beacause in often times rankings will stay the same but clicks will go down due to featured snippets, AI answers, ads, or more dominant competitors rewriting their titles.

Likely ranking for queries answered directly in the SERP (featured snippets, AI overviews), people see it, don't need to click. Check if your top queries trigger those features.

SERP features and AI answers may reduce clicks I have noticed stronger titles sometimes improve CTR noticeably

please examine the actual searches in GSC. these are impresion results for broad match keywords that the user might not have even clicked on which is why there is a gud rank but poor CTR.

yeah pretty much what everyone here’s saying. AI overviews + snippets just pull static text n slap the answer straight onto the SERP. if ur site is mostly regular blog posts, ur CTR's prob gonna take a hit.

the only thing that's actually worked for me so far is moving away from pure text n adding stuff AI can't really recreate on the results page. interactive things basically.

i built a serverless setup to test this exact problem. instead of publishing normal articles, the site has 12 hardcoded finance/legal calculators that run fully client-side in the browser. google's AI can give ppl a general answer right there on the SERP, but if they wanna plug in their own numbers n get something personalized, they still gotta click through.

it kinda ended up becoming a really clean lead funnel. even if AI scrapes the title, description, or whatever, it can't replace the actual tool. the interactive elements are what make ppl click, which turns an impression that would've gone nowhere into someone with real intent.

i'm tracking the whole thing rn on a Journey thread just to see how buyers end up valuing it if i decide to flip the asset later. but yeah, if ur trying to survive in the zero-click era, interactive tools are way more defensible than plain static content.

this increase is due to the increased visibility of Google. however, this decrese in the CTR rate is due to the fact that the feature available on the SERP have helpd in satisfying the user intent. the clicked page have something more than just SERP.

Most case AI answer. your page get impression but user find the answer on google itself so click drop even when ranking stay stable.

It can be query expansion. google might show your web page in response to a wider variety of search queries and consequently genrate more impresions but then if the search queries are not relevant enugh, the click through rate would still be low.

check if ai overview or a featured snippet is showing for those keywords, that's usually what's killing ctr now.
ranking well doesn't mean much anymore if google answers the question before anyone scrolls to your result

High impression with low CTR usually means your title search intent needs work

High impressions with low clicks usually point to one of these: low rankings, poor CTR, or zero-click searches. Optimizing your snippet and targeting more specific long-tail keywords can make a noticeable difference.

Zero click pages often answer users' questions directly in search results, so they don't need to click through.
High impressions but low traffic usually mean your content is visible but satisfies search intent before a visit is needed.
