No, you don't have to purchase any specific tool. A tool was mentioned and recommended, but there are many similar tools out there including Pinterest's own free Trends tool.
When you read an SEO ebook and Semrush or Ahrefs was mentioned, do you absolutely have to buy them? Of course not.
You have to do keyword research for Pinterest. There are steps to doing precise keyword research. Do you not want to do things the right way?
