Is YouTube still worth starting if you're entering a competitive niche?

Many niches already have established creators with massive audiences. For someone starting from scratch today is YouTube still a realistic growth channel or has competition become too difficult in most categories?

I think it's still worth starting, but the strategy has changed. Ten years ago you could grow by being one of the first in a niche. Today, you usually grow by offering a different perspective, better presentation, or serving a specific sub niche that larger creators overlook.

The advantage new creators have is that YouTube recommends videos, not just channels. A small channel can still get thousands of views if a video resonates with the right audience. I've seen new creators break into competitive niches by focusing on unique insights, case studies, or content formats that stand out rather than trying to compete head to head with the biggest names.

Competition is definitely higher, but so is the opportunity. The hardest part isn't getting started. It's staying consistent long enough to find what works.
 
The problem is not about competing; it’s all about being consistent and differentiating yourself. As long as you can bring something new, give a better explanation, provide more entertainment, or even just be consistent when others have stopped being so, then there's always a lot more room for improvement.

If you can provide your target audience with high quality videos then yes youtube is a goldmine and a realistic growth channel for you.
 
YouTube has always been volatile and unpredictable. If you want to start a channel, go for it, it’s still worth it. I’m seeing plenty of new channels that started just 4–6 months ago and are already doing very well. That said, you need to create videos that offer something beyond the ordinary. Simply uploading random content and hoping for the best usually isn’t enough. Are you planning to make AI videos or make real videos with your camera?
 
I have a contrarian view. After being on yt nearly 17 years, I think yt's best days are behind it. Its constant changes in rules/regulations/bans/suspension/algorithm have alienated many content creators. Views are down 50% overall for some of the top content creators. Your channel/content is always 1 algorithm change away from demolition. Just not worth it anymore IMO.
 
Probably not. It's more effort than it's worth these days. My niche gets heavily restricted as well, so I make maybe 20% of the money that I should otherwise. YouTube used to be so much better. You need to get sponsors now, which will take awhile because you need decent views and subs before you get that
 
I don’t think competition alone is a reason to avoid YouTube Even in crowded niches creators who offer a unique perspective or consistently provide value can still build an audience over time The challenge is standing out rather than simply getting started
 
Yes, It is still worth starting. Competition is higher but there are also more viewers than ever. Instead of competing with the biggest creators, focus on a specific angle or sub-niche. Consistency, unique content and understanding your audience matter more than being first

Its always worth trying, you might end up on of these established creators.
 
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As long as you don't go full bore on it immediately.
Depending on the niche's saturation, the main issue would be finding an angle that makes you different enough for the algo to give a damn. The barrier for entry is set pretty high now for most parts, but as for the opportunity, it's still very much there.
 
Just piick a specific micro-niche angle that bigger creators are too broad to cover

Certainly worth it. There are lot of people spending lots of time watching videos. You just have to create a market for it with some unique niche.
 
the good thing about establshed niches is that they usually have subniches, like for example lets say it's a car channel, you could focus on electric cars only. That could give you a bit of a boost compared to someone who reviews all cars. Find the sub niche in the niche is my point, there is always room for viewers

Even if a niche has already established creators , it still doesn't matter....billions of viewers are using youtube and if you create videos that are latest topics and trending or even make videos on already covered topics in a different way, it still works.
 
Yes, YouTube is still worth it for starting in competitive niche but you have to more focused on content quality and SEO (keyword research, title, descriptions, and tags). You should have patience because it takes time to become popular with starting from scratch in competitive niche.
 
Everything is fiercely competitive now, but if your idea is good, give it a try on YouTube.
