Bit confused about something.

I have built backlinks like usual then they are getting indexed but I am not seeing much ranking movement like before. is it just slower now or are people doing something different with link building these days?

Would be good to hear your thoughts.

What kind of backlinks are you building? It depends.

If you're spamming Web 2.0s, profile links, blog comments, or cheap PBNs, then yes, they don't work like they used to. But if you're focusing on links from niche-relevant websites and real sites with actual traffic, backlinks can still move the needle.

Yes, I noticed the same on google backlinks still get indexed normlly, but ranking movement is much slower compared to few years ago, even when the link look strong on paper.

What kind backlinks are you building? Backlinks from relevant high authority websites/blogs still work well.

I've noticed something similar. Getting links indexed doesn't seem to translate into ranking movement as reliably as it used to. My guess is that Google has become much better at evaluating context, relevance, and overall site quality rather than simply counting links.

A few years ago a batch of decent links could move the needle pretty quickly. Now it often feels like links amplify what's already there. If the content, topical authority, and user signals are strong, the links help. If those foundations are weak, the same links may have very little visible impact.

I'd be curious what kind of links you're building. I've seen niche relevant links still make a noticeable difference, while more generic links that look good in reports often have little effect on rankings.

Same here to be honest, backlinks still index but movement feels slower now. feels like content and site quality mattar more than before.

Indexing doesn't mean a link carries weight anymore, google is getting way better at just ignoring junk links from sites with zero traffic, even if they show up in your search console, you need to focus on getting links from pages that actually rank for something themselves if you want to see your own numbers move.

depends. My DA90 domain to which I built backlinks.. its starts appearing in google for that particular anchor text extactly after 5 days. But, my DA60 domain it take almost a month. Both get backlinks from same external site/page. Yet google takes time to acknoweldge it. May be it trust DA90 domain more and credits it quickly.

If on page seo is not good and you are not ranking already on page 2-4 ofc links wont help.

Backlinks still matter in 2026, but I stopped looking only at DR.
On one of my sites, a link from a smaller topical site with real traffic gave more sense than links from bigger sites that were not really connected to my topic. Even if the site has DR 70+, but it is from another semantic area, I don’t expect much from it.
For another site, I don’t use backlinks at all now. Only clustering, structure, quality content, and strengthening old pages. All this helped me increase traffic a lot over the last 3 months. The average position improved to 7.5, and CTR also increased significantly.
For me, relevance, real traffic and the page itself are more important now than just high metrics. I also noticed that good internal linking can help main pages a lot, especially when you build clear clusters around them.

links still help but they do not seem to move rankings as quickly as they used to.
in a lot of cases, google seems to be paying more attention to content quality, topical relevance and overall site authority.
good links still matter but they work netter when the site foundation is already strong.

Yeah, whoever buys link packages is basically getting scammed at this point. Especially since you can just buy an expired domain which is still in google for $10 and then just ask ai to replicate that webdesign and add your links. Lmao.

Same experience here. I've seen cases where links were indexed but rankings barely moved. It feels like search engines are evaluating link quality and context more carefully, so few strong, relevant links often outperform a large number a average ones.

backlinks still help but they do not seem to move rankings as quickly as they used to be. it feels like google is putting more weight on content quality, relevance and overall site trust. a link getting indexed does not always mean you will see an immediate ranking boost system.

The update, it would appear, stress relevance over the number of link. a few links from pages that have high topical authority could perform better than many links from unrelated sites, and properly internal linking aids in spreading link juice efficiently.

contextual link found on reputable websites in your niche have been identified as the most useful type of backlink you can have. this is also applicable to internal link building.

indexing a backlink does not always mean it will pass much value now. i think google is better at judging the quality and relevance of links instead of just counting them. i have seen better results when focusing on niche relevant link, real traffic sources and building links naturally over time. random backlinks do not seem to move rankings like they used to.

Relevance and authority of the linking site matters way more now than just quantity. Give it 6-8 weeks and foccus on fewer, better links rather than volume.
