I often see accounts growing very quickly despite posting fairly average content Is Instagram growth now influenced more by consistency engagement patterns and retention signals rather pure content quality alone

Because on Instagram, growth isn’t just about content quality. Distribution, timing, consistency, niche fit, and how well the account fits a specific audience all matter a lot too. Some accounts also benefit from strong hooks, early engagement, or a format that makes the content easy to consume, even if the content itself is only average.

Average content can still grow fast if the account has the right positioning and keeps feeding the algorithm something it can push.

Content quality alone stopped being enough a long time ago

Instagram cares more about behavioral signals now:
  • watch time
  • rewatches
  • shares
  • saves
  • comments
  • consistency
  • how fast people interact after posting
I’ve seen average-looking Reels do millions just because the hook in the first 2 seconds was strong
Meanwhile some creators spend 10 hours editing cinematic content that people scroll past instantly

The algorithm rewards retention way more than effort
