Hey everyone,
I've recently started learning about SEO and try to understand how things work behind the scenes. It bit confusing because any things are being mentioned in the list.

can anyone explain in simple terms how search engines actually ranks websites and what matters the most for beginners?

Search engines rank websites mainly based on how well your content matches what people are searching for, how useful and trustworthy it is, and how good the overall experience is (like speed and mobile friendliness)
 
You just have to focus on three things which are relevant content (answer what people are searching for), basic on-page setup (titles, keywords, structure), and a few quality backlinks. Then stay consistent with content, and improve gradually. That’s what actually moves rankings for beginners.
