How much does a domain usually cost depending on the niche?

Hey guys, so I ended up pulling the trigger on that $3000 domain I mentioned earlier. Now looking to buy more but noticed prices vary a lot depending on the niche.


Is there a general price range for niches like finance, health, or casino? Or does it purely depend on metrics like DR and backlinks?


Any insights appreciated

Niches used to matter a lot back in the day. For example during hack/crack era, the gaming domains were super expensive. These days I haven't been noticing some significant variances between the niches.

Nowadays, most people buying highly priced domains are people from casino/gambling background who do not care about niches. But they do care about the domain attributes.

DR/RD and proper backlink profile will always drive the price up. But what drives it even more nowadays is whether the domain has active GMB profile and whether it has an active traffic.

Even domains that had active traffic in the past couple months will be very expensive.

What method did you use for the transaction? Since you mentioned it was a private deal, I was a bit concerned about that.

An expensive price does not always mean the domain is good. Prices listed on expired domain marketplaces are often determined by SEO tools and metrics anyway. (So it is not completely accurate.)

Personally, if you contact the owner directly and negotiate privately, the seller can pretty much name their own price. It may become very expensive, but there is also a chance to acquire a truly valuable domain that way.

If you carefully research domains one by one using tools and the Wayback Machine, you can still find solid and usable domains at regular registration prices or even under $500.

Niche definitely affects pricing Finance, health, casino, crypto money niches so expired domains there usually carry a premium even with average metrics. But DR alone means nothing now relevance clean historyindexed pages and backlink quality matter way more than inflated Ahrefs numbers.
 
The niche absolutely dictates the floor price. For Casino or Finance, youre almost always going to pay a premium because the CPC in those industries is so high. $3,000 domain in those niches might actually be a budget find if the metrics are solid. Health is similar but more sensitive to the backlink profile (E-A-T).

Metrics like DR and clean history determine the value within that niche, but the industry sets the starting point. If you find a high DR domain in a boring niche like gardening or DIY, you can often snag it for way less than a mid-tier finance domain.

Congrats on the purchase! While DR and backlinks matter, Niche relevance is a huge price factor. High-competition niches like Casino and Finance always command a premium price because the ROI is much higher. A DR 30 Casino domain will often cost way more than a DR 50 Hobby blog. Always check the 'Referring Domains' quality over just the DR score!
 
Niche matters but metrics matter more in most cases. Finance and casino domains usually cost more because demand is higher not because the niche itself boosts SEO.

Clean backlink profile and history usually drives price way more than the niche label.

True, a clean profile is way more valuable in the long run. Metrics are easy to manipulate these days, but history doesn't lie

Price depends upon age of domain, da/dr of domain, and traffic of domain.
 
niche sets base price, metrics decide final. casino/finance highest, then health. clean aged domain with real links = expensive. junk links = cheap but risky
 
Niche dictates the demand, but clean backlinks sets the price.
