Is SEO Becoming More About Manipulation Than Marketing?

I saw both sides, some people are chasing loopholes and some are buy in creating quality content and backlinks. Loopholes giving quick winds but doesn't last.

SEO is not just manipulation its about who creates real values and strategies.

Yeah a lot of people try to game the system with tricks but seo still about providing value and good content if youre legit the rankings will follow

It definitely feels that way sometimes, especially with how hard it is to rank without some form of aggressive link building. But I think the most sustainable approach is still a mix of both. Using those technical loopholes to get discovered, but having actual marketing value so people actually stay on the site once they land there. If its pure manipulation with no value, a core update usually catches up eventually.

Loopholes might work for a while, but they don’t last. updates always catch up.
In the long run, sites that focus on real value, relevance, and trust are the ones that stay on top.

If we are honest, a lot of SEO success comes from exploiting gaps rather than pure marketing skill. Is SEO now more about finding loopholes than building value? Has it shifted from strategy to manipulation over time?
Short -term, yeah gaps and loopholes can work. But long-term, Google closes them fast. Real winners focus on value, intent, and authority. SEO hasn’t shifted to manipulation it’s just harder to fake value now.

If finding gaps by you mean always looking for ways to manipulate a website so that your backlink stays there then yes. it is manipulation.

Honestly, it’s always been a bit of both. While "loophole hunting" gets you fast wins, those sites usually crash eventually if there's no real value. The best strategy is using those gaps to get noticed, but making the content good enough to keep people there once they land.

seo was always partly manipulation tbt. The on;y difference now is google catches loopholes faster. Quicjk trucks can still rank fast but if there's no real value behind it, those rankings usually don't survive future undates

It’s still marketing at its core just with more edge cases and loopholes than before. The best results still come from blending strategy + value, not pure manipulation, because algo updates eventually catch up.

kinda both tbh. good SEO still needs real value, otherwise people bounce and nothing lasts. but yeah, a huge part of ranking fast is spotting gaps in the algo before everyone else does. could be content structure, expired domains, internal linking, diverse backlinks, entity signals, whatever.
google keeps patching things, SEOs keep adapting. i don’t even see it as “manipulation” anymore, more like understanding how the system rewards signals and using that better than competitors.

Honestly, it’s a bit of both. SEO definitely used to feel more like finding loopholes in the system, and yeah, some people still chase that. but at the same time, google keeps closing those gaps more and more
