Yes blackhat SEO are techniques that you can exploit and rank fast on Google or any other search engine. Long term whitehat SEO is slower but more reliable in my opinion because there is a very very small chance for your website to get flagged. With blackhat SEO you're in for a quick buck; whitehat is for growing steadily and surely without fear of loosing your websites/digital assets.

People do SEO for silly reasons, for example they want to make money...
To make money you don't need something as complex as SEO.
If you focus only on SEO, you'll provide nothing and your content will be just slop.
Naturally you won't rank for long time.
