I've been reading some posts here about using tools to improve YouTube video performance, but I don't know the difference between these tools, and what the real risk is for a channel using this type of technique. What is it for? Is it just to increase numbers and earn more? And why do so many people hate it or criticize it even when they are using it?

The difference is simple: SMM panels sell you dead numbers, while phone farms try to simulate hardware-level signals.

The real risk is a permanent ban or a shadowban if your signals look like bot patterns. People hate on it because 90% use trash panels that destroy their retention and kill the channel's organic potential.

If you're looking for safe growth, stop chasing raw views. Focus on technical ranking to hit the TOP-10 search results. It’s about forcing the algorithm to see your content as relevant through behavioral signals, not just pumping up a counter. That’s where the real money is.

The core difference comes down to signal authenticity. SMM panels are cheap because they route traffic through datacenter IPs or heavily recycled residential proxies — YouTube's classifier has seen those ASNs thousands of times and knows exactly what they are. Your views register, maybe, then get swept in a quality review and stripped. Worse, the pattern of views (instant spike, zero retention, no interaction) is a textbook bot signal that flags the video for suppression.
Phone farms are harder to detect because you're dealing with real carrier IPs, real Android device fingerprints, real app behavior. The watch session looks organic at the hardware level. But they're expensive to run and maintain, and the moment someone gets lazy with the behavioral scripting — same scroll patterns, same watch percentage, same session length across 200 devices — the ML catches it anyway. The fingerprint might be real but the behavior is uniform.
The criticism from people who use it is mostly about trash-tier panels that do more harm than good. A bad SMM run can tank a channel's CTR signals permanently even after the fake views get removed, because the algorithm already adjusted its content distribution model. That's the real danger — not the ban itself.

They can give short term bumps but the risk is the traffic often looks unnatural so performance can drop later. That is why people debate them since results are not stable long term. Its impostant to choose a reliable service

The vast majority of SMM panels do nothing but get your channel and/or content shadowbanned, you can’t really expect to send out low quality traffic these days and have a positive effect.

both smm panel and phone farms can be detected by youtube, that is why simply ordering them won't make a difference, it is how you use them and it means how you can make it seem natural as possible to the youtube algo. Even today there are creators earning huge numbers by doing it the right way, example drip feeding services and etc. We would suggest you stick to a panel that has the knowledge and can direct you to use these services the right way to see good results.

Alright, you’re kinda mixing a few things there mate, so let’s keep it simple.
SMM panels are basically services where you buy engagement, views, likes, subs stuff like that. It’s more plug and play, you order and it delivers.
Phone farms are a different beast.
That’s more hands-on, real devices running activity, so you’ve got way more control over behavior, timing, patterns it’s not just numbers, it’s how those numbers are generated.
That’s why the results end up being organic growth, mate.
End of the day, both are used to push performance, yeah, but not in the lazy “just inflate stats” way if you actually know what you’re doing.
It’s more about helping the video get traction and not die at 10 views.
As for the hate
happens for a few reasons.
Some people never found a decent provider and got burned, so they think it’s all trash.
Others never even tried it and just repeat what they read. And yeah, plenty do use it quietly but won’t say a word, they don’t want more people getting the same results.
Classic forum stuff
just curious, how big is your setup- and how much automation is there? was doing some research to setup one myself hehe
