SERP rankings don’t feel as straightforward as they used to.
There was a time when hitting the top 3 meant predictable traffic, clear ROI, and a simple goal: rank higher, get more clicks. Now, the SERP itself has changed featured snippets, AI answers, videos, forums, local packs… sometimes you’re technically “ranking,” but still losing attention.
It’s starting to feel like position ≠ visibility anymore. You can rank #1 and still get less traffic if the SERP is crowded with other elements. At the same time, some sites are getting visibility through mentions, snippets, and AI summaries without even being traditionally ranked at the top.
So the real game seems to be shifting from: “Where do I rank?” → “How visible am I across the entire SERP?”
That changes how we approach SEO: Less focus on just keywords, More focus on intent, format, and coverage, More importance on brand and entity signals
But it also raises a challenge visibility is harder to measure than rankings.
So I am curious:
Are you still prioritising traditional rankings as your main KPI? Or are you shifting toward a broader visibility strategy across SERP features?
And realistically… are rankings losing importance, or just evolving?
Would be interesting to hear how others are adapting to this shift.
