FB Reels algorithm shift?

Anyone else noticing Reels reach tanking this week unless you're pushing heavy ad spend behind them? My organic reach dropped ~60% overnight on pages that were previously consistent.

Algorithm update or just me?
Yes we've seen the reels reach tanking this week. Its probably due to recent algo update. So yes you're correct.

It has always been this way: if you run ads on your account and then abruptly stop, Instagram quickly cuts your reach everywhere—in stories, reels, posts. This is basically standard practice. Nowadays, it's very difficult to grow without money.

The current ads have likely reached their limit. To scale further, we need to diversify our creative assets. Let’s launch a split test with 5 unique content variations—varying the hooks and visuals—to see which set can lower our CPA and revive engagement

FB is compare to other social platfdorms the worst of all. Engagement, conversion rates are much lower and much slower on FB you need mor work and a longer funnel to make them convert, your need a group, with decent numbers of postings, then a newsletter sign up with long email sequences if 1-2 months to make them convert to buy your products/services. On other social platforms you will grow up much much faster organically with much less restrictions. So why build your future only on FB ?

Twitter X, IG and Youtube are much better places, when you know how grow up organical there.

Many content creators are noticing a sudden drop in reach on Reels recently, possibly due to ongoing algorithm adjustments and increasing competition. You don't necessarily need to spend more money on these advertising campaigns, but you absolutely must innovate and improve the quality of your campaigns to attract customers.

Many creators have recently noticed fluctuations in Reels reach, which could be related to algorithm updates and growing competition on the platform. It doesn’t automatically mean you need to increase ad spend. At the moment, focusing on strong engagement signals and improving audience retention can make a bigger difference in overall performance.

You can build uporganical new followers every month easy on Twitter and IG but on FB not so, their algo is different it's based on friends network first, then use engagement or DM massages (manychat here?) this comes second. The psychology of your audience is different, you can't easily convert your audience to your FB group with a month retainer membership fee as it is with discord or a premium newsletter subscription. In that point,FB is different.

You not find a lot of books or free udemy courses who teach you that. First knowing the psychology of your target audience then second, you know what you should offer them:

Happy Weekend !

You're not alone. This week, the site administrator community has been buzzing about a sudden drop in reach, and the 60% figure you provided perfectly matches the situation across many large systems.

Algorithm update or just me?
It’s not just you — a lot of creators are reporting sharp drops in organic Reels reach this week, especially on accounts that aren’t feeding regular engagement signals.

From what people are sharing, the algorithm seems to be prioritizing recent high-engagement behavior and heavier spending patterns, so consistent organic reach without momentum is getting deprioritized. I’d test tighter niche focus + hook optimization first before immediately scaling ad spend.

You're definitely not alone — many creators and page admins are reporting similar drops in Reels reach this week.
A few things could be happening:
Algorithm adjustments – Meta often tweaks how Reels are distributed, and sometimes reach can dip before stabilizing again.
Boosted content getting preference – Paid promotion will push reach higher, so organic posts may look weaker by comparison.
Seasonal/content fatigue – Engagement shifts can also be due to audience behavior changes (events, holidays, news cycles etc.).

Right now, it does feel like an algorithm update, especially if you’re seeing a sudden ~60% drop overnight on previously consistent Pages.
What helps right now:
• Post higher watch-time content (short hook + watch till end)
• Try different creative angles (text overlays, trends, music)
• Test posting times
• Engage quickly with comments
• Mix in Stories + Live to signal activity
But yes — if your only strong reach comes when you spend on ads, that suggests the algorithm is favoring monetized/promoted content at the moment.

Right now, watch time and retention seem more important than ever. If engagement velocity drops even slightly, distribution slows down fast.

A sudden drop in Reach Reels is often due to algorithmic adjustments to distribution and engagement signals, not necessarily just because you stopped running ads. However, during this time you should also try creating new content, as your current content may no longer be effective. Facebook changes daily, so we need to adapt accordingly.

You mean Reels on Facebook?

You’re not alone — I’ve seen similar drops this week on previously stable pages. Organic Reels reach feels more volatile lately, especially without consistent engagement signals. Hard to say if it’s an update or just distribution recalibration, but it definitely isn’t isolated.

Organic reach or paid reach it does not matter, the algo is the same. When their algo not has any clue what your content is about and for which audience, then most of your audience will not see it. Facebook works a little bit different; have Network first (friends, followers) then do organic reach to them , FB prefers first networking.

Because the algo not knows what your content is about and your audience?

same here, noticed a big dip then it came back after like 4-5 days. i think fb just tests distribution in waves. wouldn't panic yet, just keep posting and check again in a couple weeks
