Real (not paid, of any kind, not "Vagex" either) views still do a decent job, but the real value lies in "on page" (if we can call it that) SEO, and generally focusing more on the actual video, than it's backlink profile. Titles, Descriptions, Tags, Social engagement (to a certain degree)...

I've found that sending out 50-100 (on different accounts) tweets, get stuff index and crawled crazy fast. BUT I do tend to only bother with that on my main site, not the backlinks (unless they're high quality stuff), so who knows. But that's what I do!
