Lets say you are buying "xyz.com" from an auction. That site is redirected to say "facebook.com". So if you don't check the redirects you'll see all the high metrics of facebook , not the actual metrics of the site. So, you'll be deceived if you buy that domain without checking the redirects...

For LSI Keywords, try to take the advantage of internal linking. Get some link back to these LSI pages from your high ranking pages. Also, build some contextual links like web2.0s, articles etc. You can use some automation as well in a controlled way. Hope this helps :)
