If you domain is seen a spammy then that might be a reason why.When i used to work for a ESP ( email service provider) we would sell the client a separate domain just for emailing to avoid either domain effecting each other. So not sure to the answer but could you use mail chimp ?

My Suggestion would be to pick up the phone to follow up on the email, If they don't have a existing website then it is very unlikely that they will be checking there emails very often and then just see the email as spam.
