One thousand for a beginner is not a bad start. I would pick Ethereum, OmiseGO, IOTA, Cardano, NEO, and Ontology. Although I think that the author of the post made his choice, the other people may use this information.
Airdrops not give you profit anymore. Better forget about this idea. But when bitcoin will reach 15000$ maybe some good project can appear with airdrops.
It depends on the cryptocurrency. For instance, it is more profitable to mine Zcash and Litecoin. When you trade these tokens, it will not bring you such high profits.
I am trying to do everything. A couple of years ago I was mining but now I do not find that this activity brings the best profits. I participate in Bounties, trade and hold the cryptocurrencies.
Also possible to create coin with Waves. It will cost as I remember just 1 Wave (about 2.5$). But the best tokens are on Ethereum network, but you need to program something.
I'm using epayments. Super nice card and service. But I think from December they stopped to issue cards other then for Europe. If this mark is ok for you can try this card.
Ripple shows good results in creating and improving technologies but some experts notice that this project is under control of its developers so it can not be named the currency in full extent. It seems more like a technology nor a currency.
