Increase your page load speed and see if that helps.

Go for long tails. Tackle it by breaking down the big site into smaller sites and than beating them in each category. So category 1 will be one site, category 2 will be your second site etc.

I don't think it's about trying harder or working longer. I think OP was just saying that your inner world will always dictate your outer world. You need to change your belief systems.
