I don't know much about Amazon templates, but I had a client once that dealed with this. Basically I designed something like this (no coding). Search on Google for "free wordpress amazon template" and go to wpthemesense website. That's where I got my inspiration, I think you'll find it useful.

You can also install wordpress in that subdomain and use woocommerce or a similar plugin for wordpress. Keep it simple with wordpress, it works really nice !
