We've already gained a majority of the links that they have. the bigger ones are referrals from blogs or news sites that talk about them. so it's a little hard to get those.

I totally understand that, But i believe spammy keywords wouldn't be classified as a good content website. I'm talking about websites that have relevant content to what the user is searching for. Not keyword spamming websites. It may have been a rumor I'm not sure. But I've seen it around a bit.
