The most cost effective, if executed correctly: Social Networking. Large flow of visitors quickly. It takes the most endurance (on your part) because social stuff drops almost as fast as it comes.

I think the idea is, that is a link on a .gov site. It's a webpage with your url on it. You post the link of the .gov page to RSS feeds and other sites and get indexed quicker. That's the theory anyway.

Just did a quick domain name search on the .today TLD extension. I took the most commonly registered (.com) keywords on the internet (9,171 of them) between 3 and 13 characters long and ran a domain name search. Of that, 4,393 domain names are still available to regisiter (as of 11Mar14)...
