I know of services on here that sell backlinks, after you cancel services they do a hard-remove off all of the links from their blog farm. They use this as leverage to retain you as a customer.. be careful who you deal with.

I have had much success with wprobot campaigns when I was using it as a placeholder when building out my sites. I ended up ranking out for a range of keywords, some of which I didnt intend. It was strictly temporary though.
