If your website is 1 year old it's now the time to start building backlinks. As @joeb1ow said get a plan for building links and stick to it. You will soon outrank these free sites.
Just make sure you don't use any keywords in the anchor text or you will risk over-optimization. URL or branded anchors and you should be fine, are we talking a few links or thousands of links?
You won't get much movement on medium-high keywords but they are good for link diversity. As others have said, make sure to post on relevant non-spammy blogs, and manually write a comment that actually adds value.
Can't really value a website based on traffic alone, it all depends on the earnings.
If you have 10k visitors a month but no earnings, it's impossible to say how much it could potentially earn.
Welcome, you are correct there is no reason why you can't make money from your own sites. Don't spend months reading up about it though, just start now and learn as you go.
Go through all the posts and interlink them as much as possible (where relevant), and make sure your on-page is decent. Depending on the competition a few good links spread out across a couple of pages should start to see some movement across the whole site.
000webhost is free but it displays a banner on your site and has a lot of downtime. You can find cheap web hosting for a couple of dollars per month, it's not really expensive. And use a free theme until you can afford to buy a custom one.
The high authority blogs in each niche probably get about 100+ guest post offers per week, so you need to either come up with something totally unique or become their best friend. I usually start off with the lower quality blogs then I have some samples to show the bigger fish.
