I'm concerned about making content rich articles for my site but I am not sure if it is better it re-write/spin a high ranking article or actually using article link in my post for backlinking. Which is more effective when trying to build page rank?

Yes go with wordpress and install wordpress to each subdomain. Or you can buy different domains and link them all to your reseller hosting and then link them to each other;)
