I agree with you. Some of my site goes straight to the first page after being indexed. I guess it's because im targeting micro niche sites with virtually no competition. Some sites I have to work a little to get them to page one but most of my sites reach page 1 in well under 6 months.

I am assuming you do not have exact match keyword domain name? It is not necessary but if you competitors have an exact match they will rank higher with significantly less work from my experience. I have once seen a parked domain with absolutely ZERO content and ZERO backlinks rank higher...
