I want to add sub categories because I feel that it would improve relevance, particularly when it comes to showing related posts. It just makes sense to have posts about acne and toothpaste, for example, in the same broad category yet in different, more focused sub categories. Every large site...

Seems like no one is 100% sure. Decided to write a couple hundred words for each category to play it safe.

If I build links to category pages but noindex, follow those category pages, will link juice be distributed to the posts the category pages link to? The reason the category pages are set to noindex, follow is because they just contain links to posts in the category and nothing else.

$1 per 100 words seems fair, and is a price many students would probably be willing to accept. If he's really good, however, be nice and pay him a bit more for his effort.
