While that is mostly the case with G.com, it's really not the case with all the local ones. For example in my native G, it is still possible to rank with just an EMD and some content.

I have not had a problems with them. Good customer support if you need it, good uptime and not a very high price. I've been a customer of theirs for about 2.5 years.

This kind of video can be done also with PowerPoint, Keynote or Screenflow. I've used the latter option to create this kind of video and it's not that difficult, just takes some time and patience.

This would be exactly my advice. Don't try to index the whole web in the beginning as you don't have the resources for that. Rather go for something niche - either based on location or topic (finance, health, sports - but maybe even more niche, like "search engine for ice hockey" or whatever)...

Nice rant by Matt :) I'm not saying that BH or WH would be better or more profitable, I just think that BH will get harder and harder.

I don't think that Google will have "Pay to Play" -type of searches anytime soon, at least not on all terms. Sure, for highly commercial terms like "Buy TV" or "buy shoes online" it might happen... but there are SO many terms that are not commercial (at all) and it is difficult to turn those in...
