If the redirected domain uses a 302 redirect, yes it can rank (and I've seen cases of this) If the redirected domain uses a 301 redirect, no it will not rank It's important to know what the different kinds of redirects are. Only a 301 redirect will give link juice to the target of the redirect.

I disagree. I have found that .eu domains are a bit harder to rank. Yes, it's possible...but it is harder. If your site is in English than do yourself a favor: get a dot com. If the dot com is not available, get a dot org instead...or choose a variation of your keyword phrase on the dot com.

If you use a 301 redirect, Google WILL replace the first link in the index with the second link...after a certain amount of time. If you don't want the original link to disappear out of the index, you should use a 302 redirect instead...but these are NOT search engine friendly and it may damage...

Most sites attract traffic from not just one keyword, but from many different keywords. Can it be that the rankings for some other keywords have disappeared? Or - perhaps it is a bug in your rank checker? Or - perhaps it is a bug in your web analytics software that shows you your traffic...
