Well, I don't think the date will get you in the top nor it will decrease your ratings if it is not there. But if your readers feel engaged and feel that they get value from your posts (not necessary do get real value), they might help you stay in the top.

Second that! "Updated (date)" is much better and will always give visitor a sense of blog freshness. Not an expert, but even as a blog reader I appreciate if blog posts get updated regularly. What ads trust is also a short paragraph in the top: "UPDATE: some text here" Makes me feel that...
