There's a lot of factors working against you here to be honest.
1. duplicate content.
2. free blog hosting (i dont care what others say, this hurts you)
3. you aren't ranking high yet for any terms.
4. terms you are ranking for aren't highly searched terms.
just a few.
If it doesn't work from changing the recent post count widget then you'll have to edit the theme itself as it's coded somewhere in that (can be theme specific).
I'd personally use one of the super cache plugins instead, though even with those you have to tweak them if you want real time content to show up as if you weren't running a caching plugin. Unless you're pushing a ton of visitors and need this it really isn't worth it imo.
