I did half of my anchor text backlinks into generic terms last month. Should I do more? And how do I remove the bad links even those made months or even years ago?

Help please. My air medical site got from very slowly rising up on the 5th page in google for a competitive keyword last month to suddenly being 240th this month. The other main keywords got from 1st page to 2nd page and the other keyword got from 13th page to 27th page. What we did last month...
