Google penaized my site from 5th page to 24th page!

Help please. My air medical site got from very slowly rising up on the 5th page in google for a competitive keyword last month to suddenly being 240th this month. The other main keywords got from 1st page to 2nd page and the other keyword got from 13th page to 27th page.

What we did last month was:

1. remove meta keywords tags from web pages (to avoid over-optimization penalty)
2. Build backlinks mainly from Paul johnson and Joe Finn packets.
3. Get social media likes for web pages

My site is still PR 4 and I checked site:mysitecom and it's still at top for it. Any good advice so it could recover?

Oh dear, the only thing you can do is add anchor text of click here, read more, etc. To dilute the over optimization that you have done. Additionally, start building good links and try to remove the bad links.

Was in a similiar situation but wasnt as bad as you. At least i was in top 100 still. I diluted the over optimization and now im seeing myself on the first page for several highly competitive keywords like seo. :D
 
I did half of my anchor text backlinks into generic terms last month. Should I do more? And how do I remove the bad links even those made months or even years ago?
 
I purchased several services to help me:

The owner helped me to analyze and told me it was due to over optimization. True enough, after a month (After i hired him), my rankings were better though some of them were not on the first page.

For competitive keywords that i was dying to get on the first page,this package helped me to achieve it. Though i was on the lower part of top 10, but i was very delighted with the results achieved.

Hope this helps. The packages are not cheap but the money was well worth it because i will be getting back my money and more from my customers. I have been seeing a jump in leads ever since my keywords appear on the first page.

Sorry, but I came here for advice and not sales talk. I'm not financially stable at the moment. Will adding more generic anchor text backlinks help? Should I follow advice on the following threads?

EMD??? Yeah, it was. How do I recover from it?
 
It cant be a Penalty ,as you are still on 24th Page not far away,it must be just a Google Dance since you updated content etc so you should be shuffling here and their for a while after which , you should be back to better rankings than before
 
Many EMDs got hit since last week maybe its affecting your site as well.
